The first recipe! Turmeric Shrimp with Citrus & Avocado from I Dream of Dinner (so you don't have to)

Jen dove right in to I Dream of Dinner (so you don't have to).  Check out her first recipe below.

I was so excited to pick up I Dream of Dinner (so you don't have to) by Ali Slagle.  The cover picture brought me right in with its bright green background paired with vibrant pink and red grapefruit and shrimp.  I decided I needed to try this cover recipe first.

Turmeric Shrimp with Citrus & Avocado was the first listed recipe in the "Sea Creatures," section in the Table of Contents.  Slagle organizes recipes in interesting ways with catchy descriptions.  This recipe was under the heading, "COOK FAST & HOT."  To her credit, the recipe did not take much work and it was a quick cook.

I followed the recipe to a T.  For our family, we needed to add a carb to make it a heartier meal so I served it over white rice and added cilantro on top as the author suggested.  Really not much to report in terms of getting ingredients or any difficulty with execution.  This was generally an easy recipe to follow and great for a weeknight meal.  It had been 90 degrees outside so it was nice to enjoy something light and tasty.  I hadn't bought a grapefruit in over a year and the combination of turmeric shrimp and grapefruit was a new one for our household.  We found we had to be bite artists to truly experience the combination of chile, avocado, cucumber, grapefruit, and shrimp.  It was bright, light, pretty, and we'd eat this again!  Actually, I did eat it cold for lunch again the next day and it was just as good or better giving the lime and chile some time to commingle a bit more.  When we make this again, we'd cut it all into much smaller sized pieces and mix it all up in a bowl serving it ceviche style.  Our family rated it 4 out of 5 stars.

  1. This looks great! I like the idea of chopping it up for ceviche style. I think a couple pulses in the food processor would be just enough.
